In our last +1, we talked about the fact that life is rarely never one perfectly beautiful, geometrically progressive staircase to the moon.
Today I’d like to shine a brighter light on that reality.
Let’s invite Ralph Waldo Emerson to the Optimizing party.
He tells us: “The voyage of the best ship is a zigzag line of a hundred tacks. See the line from a sufficient distance, and it straightens itself to the average tendency.”
Guess what?
Same rules apply for our own lives.
We zig.
And we zag.
Step back far enough and we can see a straight line from one version of ourselves to the highest versions of ourselves.
The challenge?
When we’re in the midst of figuring things out it’s easy to start to doubt ourselves and think that it SHOULD be one straight, unbroken up-and-to-the-right growth curve.
BUT…
That’s when it’s wise to remember a couple other gems from Ralph Waldo.
Remember: “If I have lost confidence in myself, I have the universe against me.”
Therefore: “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.”
That’s Today’s +1.
Those zigs and zags? They’re part of the process.
