#900 Swallowing Demons

And Getting Their Power

In our last couple +1s, we had some fun using our challenges as fuel for our growth. Blazing fire making brightness and flame out of everything thrown into it for the win! 🔥

I briefly mentioned the fact that Nietzsche came up with the whole Amor Fati phrase to capture this eternal wisdom.

I also promised to share Joseph Campbell’s reflection of his wisdom.

Here it is.

In his classic book The Power of Myth based on the must-watch interview series he did with Bill Moyers, Joseph Campbell tells us: “There is an important idea in Nietzsche, of Amor fati, the ‘love of your fate,’ which is in fact your life. As he says, if you say no to a single factor in your life, you have unraveled the whole thing. Furthermore, the more challenging or threatening the situation or context to be assimilated and affirmed, the greater the stature of the person who can achieve it. The demon that you can swallow gives you its power, and the greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.

Amen.

That’s Today’s +1.

One more time.

What’s going on in your life that’s currently stressing you out? (It’s all good. There’s nothing wrong with you per se. You’re human. Etc.)

The important question: Are you trying to assimilate it and affirm it? Or are you trying to deny it?

Let’s not unravel our lives by denying ANYTHING that might be going on.

Let’s swallow the demon and let it give us its power.

Remember: When we view our obstacles as fuel for our blazing fires we get to realize the truth of this statement: “The greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.

+1. +1. +1.
