In our last +1, we talked about the wonderful parallel wisdom in the first Big Ideas from a couple of our Notes.
As you may recall, both Ernest Holmes and Vernon Howard told us to TURN ON THE LIGHT!!
They also both said nearly the same thing regarding the idea that “it makes no difference how long it was dark…”
Today we’ll refresh our memories on their wisdom and then add a little caveat.
Holmes: “You are using the Law of Life every time you think. No matter how long you may have been using It wrongly in your ignorance, the very day, that hour, yes the very moment, you begin to use this Power rightly, the effect of having used It wrongly will pass from your experience. Does it make any difference how long a room has been dark when you introduce a light; how long the earth has been parched when refreshing rain comes to bring new life, a new seed time and a new harvest to the fields?”
Howard: “It is a mistake for anyone to think he has lived too long in his old, unsatisfactory ways to make the great change. If you switch on the light in a dark room, it makes no difference how long it was dark because the light will still shine. Be teachable. That is the whole secret.”
So…
YES!!
It’s true that the light will shine no matter how long it’s been dark.
AND…
The reality is that if you’ve been living in the dark for a really long time, it WILL make a difference how long it’s been dark. You’re going to have some metaphorical dust and cobwebs you’re going to need to clean up. Your life (and mind and body) might be a little more dusty than you’d like.
And, well, it is what it is.
As Seth Godin would put it, it’s unfortunate you’ve waited this long to turn on the light, but it would be unforgivable to wait any longer to flip the switch and get to work on the clean up.
So…
Flip the switch.
And get to work on the clean up.
