#476 How to Make Progress

Confucius Says It’s Simple: Just Keep Going

Confucius is back for a little more wisdom.

Today he’s going to teach us about how to make progress.

Me: “Thanks for joining us again, Confucius. Here’s the microphone.”

Confucius: “Thank you, Brian. Greetings, Heroes. As I mention in my Analects, know this: ‘As in the case of making a mound, if, before the very last basketful, I stop, then I shall have stopped. As in the case of leveling the ground, if, though tipping only one basketful, I am going forward, then I shall be making progress.’”

🎤 drop.

That’s awesome. Thanks, Big C! (And, nice mic drop.)

So, to recap and connect to some other ideas we’ve explored:

Want to build a mound or level the ground? (And, I mean, who doesn’t, right? lol. How great are 2,500-year-old metaphors?)

So.. Want a mound or level ground? Keep that basket moving.

As my old coach Steve Chandler would say, “Stop stopping.

And, as they say, when you’re climbing a mountain, it doesn’t matter how many times you give up as long as you’re feet keep moving.

Then we have my personal Yoda Phil Stutz and his ideas on what he calls “emotional stamina.” The worse you feel? The more committed you are.

Then S.N. Goenka taught us to “start again” every time we get distracted. Just start again. And again and again.

That’s Today’s +1.

Keep the basket moving. Level the ground. Build your mound.

(Or whatever else it is that’s firing you up these days! 🤓)
