#382 Conquering Cancer: Part II

Shocking Stats + Rethinking Cancer: Theory + Therapy

Not too long ago we had a series of +1s on how to conquer cancer.

Although I’m somewhat hesitant to jump back into the cancer discussion again via these +1s, I’m also BLOWN away by the stats as I continue to obsess about how to support my brother and, by extension, you and your family as your virtual brother.

Get this: Although 90 to 95% of all diagnoses are preventable, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes.

I’ll repeat that: 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetimes.

Therefore, if you are NOT affected by cancer — either personally or via a friend or family member — you will be a very lucky statistical anomaly.

Which makes me think of a comment we got on the Conquering Cancer 101 class we shared for free on Facebook. A woman said that she was a big fan of me and my work but that the class wasn’t “relevant” for her (her words) so she skipped it.

But…

She liked me so much (her words again) that she decided to watch the class just to hear my thoughts on the subject and learn a little more for prevention, etc.

Then…

Fast-forward TWO DAYS later. She’s in the doctor’s office with her 76-year-old dad. He’s diagnosed with incurable cancer.

The first thing she had him do? Watch the Conquering Cancer 101 class to get his mind right and ready to deal with the crisis with as much strength and grace as possible.

Remember: 90-95% of all cancers are PREVENTABLE. We don’t hear that stat trotted out too often when we talk about cancer, do we? But, alas, it’s true.
