In our last few +1s, we took a very quick, high-level look at the growing recognition of the fact that businesses can (and I’d say must!) be used as a force for good.
I mentioned The Economist cover story on what they call “Shareholder Capitalism” along with John Mackey’s debate with Milton Friedman (Rethinking the Social Responsibility of Business) plus his Conscious Capitalism movement and book. I also briefly mentioned another hero-friend Katherine Collins and the mutual funds she runs at Putnam.
I also briefly mentioned the fact that I found the magazine in my mailbox along with some “bills I got to bless.”
Today I want to explore that theme a little more.
“Blessing our bills.”
We talk about this in Abundance 101.
I originally fell in love with the idea a decade or so ago when I read Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life.
Here’s how she puts it: “It is essential that we stop worrying about money and stop resenting our bills. Many people treat bills as punishments to be avoided if possible. A bill is an acknowledgment of our ability to pay. The creditor assumes you are affluent enough and gives you the service or the product first. I bless with love each and every bill that comes into my home. I bless with love and stamp a small kiss on each and every check I write. If you pay with resentment, money has a hard time coming back to you. If you pay with love and joy, you open the free-flowing channel of abundance. Treat money as a friend, not as something you wad up and crush into your pocket.”
That’s Today’s +1.
They’re just a little high five from an individual or entity that trusted you enough to offer their services in advance—knowing you were awesome enough to take care of them on the flip side.
Reflect on that for a moment.
That’s pretty fantastic.
Then consider reflecting on the fact that ALL those things we take for granted are a result of a LOT of people working REALLY hard to make our lives amazing.
Let’s beam some love and gratitude as we bless our bills!!
For the super inspired, stamp a small kiss on every check you write!! 😘
(I personally write “THX!!!” on every memo line as a reminder of how blessed I am.)
